Gift Aid Recovery – As a Service

With around £600m unclaimed Gift Aid each year, (according to the HMRC) and at a time when all charities are going to be affected with the impact of COVID-19 on future donation income, Supported Giving’s new Gift Aid Recovery solution should be worth taking a closer look at.

Supported Giving have launched this month a re-engagement portal that is designed to work in tandem with a charity’s CRM, where historic donor data, which has not previously claimed for Gift Aid, is ingested into the portal, to mount a re-engagement campaign, over direct mail, email, SMS and even a live call out.

The SG team provide the “service” around the Gift Aid portal and manage the Gift Aid Recovery programme, using pre-agreed communication messaging, charity branded templates, where the charity has control of the content and all elements of the campaign, including timings, preferred and priority of channel etc. The charity can also see at any time, via the portal dashboard, the status on any donor or campaign in flight. There’s even the opportunity to refresh the donor data ingested, by firstly running a free data audit and then checking against Gone Away and Deceased lists to ensure you are working with the most current data.

Charities obviously need to be mindful of the provisions of GDPR, but such re-engagement of donors, is allowed, falling under the “legitimate interest” of GDPR, where such messaging constitutes “service” rather than “marketing” messaging.

“Talking to charities over the past year, it seems Gift Aid for some small to medium size charities, is often not high on the list of their immediate priorities, when a charity is tightly resourced and focussed on future fund raising events and initiatives. All too often it seems that donor data, is in different silos, needing to be centralised and combined with nervousness about what a charity can or can’t do under GDPR, all too often some of these charities are missing out on what can be rightfully claimed” says Adam Maxted, CEO, Supported Giving.

It’s a win / win solution!

With all charities expenditure being under sharp focus with Covid 19, Supported Giving’s Gift Aid Recovery solution should fit the bill, as there are no upfront or monthly fees, the company just takes a percentage of the donation income that comes back from the HMRC.

So that’s good for the charity and good for the donor too, as they have helped the charity to the tune of another 25% uplift in income, without costing the donor any more.
