Donations – Did You Know?

As of 2021, 88% of all adults in the UK had a smartphone. When broken down by age, 96% of those aged 16-24 owned a smartphone device compared to 78% aged 55 or above.

As of July 2022, more than one in three UK consumers use a digital wallet: Apple Pay, Google Pay etc. Charity Digital found reports to show that Gen Z give more to charity than other generations, read more here: Gen Z give more to charity than other generations, says report

Under-40s have also driven a rise in digital donations, with the summer of 2021 report recording the highest figure since the survey began. More than 40% of people gave online, the percentage rising to 62% for donors in Gen Z and 64% for millennials.

There have also been increases in online donations from 40 to 64-year-olds since restrictions were lifted. Similarly, the rise in digital donating, even as lockdown began to lift, demonstrates the need to make online giving as simple as possible for potential donors and it’s so important for charities to build a relationship with those supporters.

Here are five tips to help you restructure your fundraising strategy to include digital donors:-

Digital Roundtables and conversations in an audio format

At the end of the pandemic when we had been restricted to and became reliant on video meetings and conversations “Zoom Fatigue” became a real thing.  Alternatives such as podcasts have quickly become a popular and enjoyable format to consume information and engage with others.  The level of fatigue that accompanies this medium is virtually non-existent.  So consider the strategic launch of a podcast for your charity, maybe you could highlight the different ways that donations have contributed to your cause.

Get Back to Basics

Have you considered the impact of donors receiving personalised emails, newsletters and other digital touchpoints?  Receiving a personally written letter or card from your charity’s leaders could provide the personal connection a donor needs to continue engaging with you.

Use LinkedIn

LinkedIn for Nonprofits https://www.linkedin.com/groups/4181975/ is a great resource for charities, supporting you through hiring, marketing, fundraising and learning.

LinkedIn is an excellent platform to connect with peers and make connections with potential donors, trustees and advocates.

Make Online Donations Easy

We’ve all noticed that fundraising is moving more towards online donations and making sure the ease and reliability of those donations is key.  Accessible desktop and mobile websites are a great start, but maybe go one step further with providing QR codes, texttodonate and support through the donor’s journey.

Perform a Social Media Audit

How often are you interacting with donors or potential donors on your social media platforms – LinkedIn, Instagram or even TikTok?  More importantly, what impact is that interaction having?  How often are your charity’s values and interests mentioned on social media channels?  Are you taking those opportunities to generate conversations and discussions?

Supported Giving offers a cashless fundraising platform with access to our Customer Portal which will be able to track your donations in real time and create an unlimited number of QR codes that can be used across every area of your fundraising. Plus, with our QR code platform, we offer Text Giving as a free service.
